White Line Wood Cut Gems Silk Scarf

100% Habotai silk scarf is whisper light, soft, and comfortable to wear. Available in three color options and two sizes: 24" by 56" and 14" by 56". The one Lisa is modeling in all of the pictures is the one that is 24" wide in the Earth Tones color option.

•Not sure how to wear a scarf? Neither was I. I found this video very helpful.

Scarf Origin Story

In the summer of 2015 I took a White Line Wood Cut workshop at Snow Farm, the New England Craft Program, in Williamsburg, Massachusetts. The class was taught by at-the-time Massachusetts artist Lisa Houck who has since moved to the great state of Maine!

White Line Wood Cut (WLWC) is a technique that combines printmaking and watercolor painting. You start by carving/gouging a design into a single piece of wood. Working on small sections using as many colors as you please, you paint the wood with watercolor paint. While the paint is wet on the wood, you lay the paper over the painted area and rub the back of the paper to transfer the paint from the wood to the paper, transferring both the color of the paint and also the texture of the wood. While doing so, you also raise the lines where you carved them. WLWC is different from Japanese Wood Block printing which requires a separate carved block for each different color. For my weekend project at Snow Farm, I carved a 12" block that consisted of four quadrants, planning to turn them into surface design for fabric by repeating one or more of the four quadrants. Then I was able to manipulate the color schemes in Photoshop.

•I will be donating 10% of the profits from every White Line Wood Cut Gems Silk Scarf to Snow Farm. If I could, I would do several workshops at Snow Farm every single year. When I'm there, my spirit is fed (and my body, too! Happy people serve incredible food that helps keep the creativity flowing) through creating and interacting with other creatives.

•To reduce waste, I have each scarf printed to order. I will have it in the mail to you about a week after I receive your order.
