Customer Provided Silk, Synthetic or Slippery Fabric Bow Tie
You can read more about providing your own fabric for me to work with to make bow ties, suspenders, neckties or pocket squares here.
If you haven't yet ordered the fabric but found some online that you think you'd like to use, you can send me a link to that fabric (Lisa@bowtie.com), and I will let you know if I think it will work as a bow tie.
For one bow tie, please send 1/2 yard of fabric. From 1/2 yard, I can make as many as 2 bow ties.
I don't work with super lightweight fabrics like chiffon or other fabrics that you can see through. I also don't work with sequined, velvet, or beaded fabric. If you have questions about your fabric, please call or email me. I don't work with sequined, velvet or beaded fabric. Also, I know it seems like there is often enough fabric cut from the hem of a dress to make a bow tie that matches the dress. Sometimes there is, but many times, there is not. Before you send me fabric cut away from a dress hem that you would like made into a bow tie, please contact me. Sometimes I can do it, but more times than not, I cannot. Please don't send me fabric cut from a hem unless we have first discussed it to make sure it's something I can work with.
Are you unsure of which style would look best on you? Try this: download and then print this pdf of actual size bow ties. Cut out the bow tie shapes you like and hold each one under your face, where you would wear a bow tie, to see which size and shape looks best on you.
If you haven't already sent the fabric, please mail it (or have it mailed if you are ordering it and don't need them to ship it to you so you can see it before it becomes a tie) to my home address:
Lisa Eaton/YOUR NAME, Bowtie.com, 43 Heath Rd, Kennebunk, ME 04043. By putting your name on the address label, I will know to whom the fabric belongs.
If you would like me to return to you the balance of your fabric once I have cut your order, please choose the Priority Mail S&H option.
If you send me significantly more fabric than I will need to make your order and you want me to return all of that fabric to you, I will bill you for the additional cost of returning of all of your fabric.
Want to learn how to tie a bow tie? You can watch my video here on YouTube or here on Bowtie.com. You can also find written directions that you can download and print out on this page. Scroll down past the video for the directions. You can download the directions and print them at home in two configurations: One configuration—the blue button below the video—allows you to read the directions the typical way, holding the paper in front of you. The other configuration—the red button below the video—downloads the directions so that you can tape them to your shirt and READ THEM IN THE MIRROR as you learn to tie your bow tie.
